A ringer has sent in the amazing news that there were 12 Peals and 100 Quarter Peals rung for St. George’s Day.  Is this true?  Is this a record for one particular day?  Please may I have your comments on this and, indeed, any other regarding the day.

The tower of St. Andrew in Alfriston invited The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mr. Peter Field, as a visitor to watch them ring out for St. George’s Day.  He later thanked the band for the experience and expressed how impressed he was with The Ringing for England Campaign.

This part of Devon is richly represented by a host of towers that all joined in and had a great day.  In the picture are: Delie Perry of Hawkchurch, Maureen Davey of Shute, Anne Bailey of Sidmouth, Kathy Matthews of Colyton, Lisa Clarke and Janet Reynolds of Coombe Raleigh.  The news was sent in by Trevor Hitchcock.

Another St. George to add to the day’s success and it is from Great Bromley.  In the picture are Sarah Clarke, Lesley Barrell, David Wendon, Roger Carey-Smith, Steve Clarke and Des Thorne

There were many wonderful bands in this part of the country that rang out throughout the day. They gave Essex a great rendering of all types of  methods and helped this year’s campaign be such a success. Another happy band that rang out for our Patron Saint and this time it is St. Peter’s from Leckhampton.  They are: Harry Tomlinson, Barbara Pettit, Cara Capewell, George Gale, Pat Hickey and Stuart Tomlinson who is also the Tower Captain.

On the border with Sussex but still just in Kent lies the village of Cowden.  Its church, St. Mary Magdalene, joined in the campaign and rang out for St. George.

The village of Foxley has been struggling to ring out from its church St. Mary’s but this year, with its newly refurbished bells, it rang out loud and clear for its first, and what is to be hoped many more, St. George’s Day.  Here is the band as sent in by Alyson Booth.

Near the north coast of Somerset lies Bridgwater and here at St. Mary’s they rang out for all the town to hear on April 23rd.  The photo was sent in by Margaret Lee who is the proud Tower Captain.

No longer suffering from horrendous flooding which saw their church St. Mary’s an island amidst a sea of water, Westonzoyland  gathered their band and with a great act of optimism rang out for St. George. They are Brian Wylde, Tim Langston, Maurice Hurley, John Hallett, Mike Gardner and Peter Welch.
