Worcester Cathedral will be ringing its 12 bells on April 23rd for ST. GEORGE. Within this beautiful building is buried not only St. Wulfstan, not only St. Oswald but also King John. It was John’s seal that defined the acceptance in June 1215 of the Magna Carta. Its 800 years will be celebrated this year.
ST. GEORGE in Samford Brett will be ringing
This delightful village which takes its name from a ford crossing and a Knight in 1166 – Sir Simon Brett lies on the north western edge of The Quantocks, in Somerset. The church’s dedication to ST.GEORGE might well be attributed to Adam Brett in 1306. Today the ringers ring out from its 6 bells as they will again to cheer us all on April 23rd.
RINGERS are beginning to sign up
The 2015 campaign has started with great enthusiasm, from Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Kent, Devon, Somerset and Lancashire. Hurrah for them and we look forward to thousands more from every corner of the land.
New Logo for Twitter Campaign
This year’s campaign grew and reached many more ringers and engaged with a wider audience who all shared a great pride in celebrating St. George’s Day. Social media played a large part in this growing success and to help with promoting next year we are soon to launch our new logo for twitter.
RINGERS EVERYWHERE : 2015 = 5th Year!
Now is the time to think of how to make an even bigger impact for next year. Ringers everywhere send in your thoughts, comments, ideas – no matter how whacky, and all will be considered. Meetings will soon held to run through ideas already presented and so new ones will be most welcomed. Get in touch directly via: libby@ringingforengland.co.uk and let us know.
‘Have A Go’ Success – in Leicester
Nigel Robinson took up the challenge of the Campaign and opened up his tower, St. Thomas’ in Leicester, and invited the public to ‘look see’ and ‘have a go’ at ringing a bell. Well what a day, 40 people turned up and 8 have committed to learning. The Campaign contacted BBC Radio Leicester and they too turned up and interviewed Nigel at 10 and then plugged the ring for the rest of the day. Now that is a ‘success’. Well done Nigel and his tower.
2014 – An excellent year and growing – Well Done Everyone
The ringing of bells across the country for St. George’s Day has caught the imagination of a growing public which in turn has encouraged the media to sit up and take note. Your wonderful work and skill is being appreciated and the Campaign salutes you all and wishes to thank you for your terrific and generous support for the project.
