A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all Bell Ringers in the land.

New Year has started well for a very special ringer. Betty Baines of Diss in Norfolk has deservedly been awarded an MBE for her services to Change Ringing. She has been involved for over 50 years and is presently Master of the Eastern District of the Ladies Guild. Her area covers the whole of Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex so her teaching and hard work has had a far reaching influence. Ringing for England congratulates Betty on her magnificent award.

Another important St. George church rang out

Late news in that the lovely Hawksmoor church in Stepney of St. George in the East rang out its 8 bells  on the day.  The church had organised its congregation to a party held on the steps as they listened to a quarter peal of Grandsire triples ringing out right across the east end of London for all to hear and know that it was St. George’s Day.  It was an event to lift the spirits and so a happy story for the local newspaper.
