The date of April 23rd is shared with our greatest playwright’s birth and so it is apt that the county of Warwickshire is encouraging its towers to join in and ring out for both Shakespeare and St. George.
Winchester Cathedral will be ringing
This much loved cathedral now part of a hugely successful heritage site will be celebrating the nation’s day, April 23rd by ringing out from its magnificent 14 bells reminding its citizens that it was once the ancient capital of England.
The county of Oxfordshire is ….
encouraging its towers to take part. It has always been a great supporter of the campaign and the list of bands who have pledged to take part is growing.
2014 – This year has produced a dilemma for some
We have taken note that due to the movable feast of Easter the church ecclesiastica has declared that April 28th will be celebrated as St. George’s Day and, as a result, there will be some churches and cathedrals who will celebrate on that day instead. However, April 23rd is still April 23rd, and whilst the dilemma is to be respected there are many who will continue to ring on April 23rd whilst acknowledging the church’s ruling and celebrate St. George on 28th. Whichever day that is chosen we will still wish all a happy and joyous day.
And now we have joining in … Worcester Cathedral
The city of Worcester and its surroundings have been hit cruelly with the devastation of flooding but there stands its cathedral firm and sound. Its 12 bells will be ringing out reminding the country of its Patron Saint and joining in the campaign to celebrate England’s Day.

Rutland will be playing its part
This, the smallest county in England, has always been determined to join in and support the campaign and 2014 is no different. As soon as their lists are in we shall be shouting them out for all to hear.
The Cathedral of Birmingham is joining in
It may be one of the youngest to be dedicated as a Cathedral but Birmingham, the nation’s second city, has made its mark. It stands out in the heart of the country playing an important role and now its great 12 bells will be ringing out on April 23rd and will be making a wonderful sound reminding everyone for miles around that it is St. George’s Day.

The Ringers of Essex
The towers of this county have been a great support to the campaign and we shall be looking forward to hearing from their bands do keep an eye on the news.
The Districts of Nottinghamshire have been called
The towers of this area of England, famous for its tales of yore are organising their ringers to join in and will be sending in their lists.
